Lyric Tools™ is designed to make the process of creating and editing lyrics in a Google Doc™ faster and easier.
Click this link to view the Google Workspace Marketplace. Click Install. After installation, you will need to authorize the Add-on by responding to the prompts in the Google authorization screens.
Next, read the "Read Me." Access it by clicking the "Read Me… " button on the Sidebar Menu as depicted to the left. (There is also a tutorial Youtube™ video available at this link.)
Next, Get the lyric templates we have created that conform to what are generally used in professional songwriting circles.
Create 1- and 2-column lyric sheets by clicking their buttons*.
(*The non-all caps items listed in the sidebar look like just text, but they actually are clickable buttons.)
The “Find & Replace Chords” tool finds chords (formatted in accordance with the “Chord formatting instruction” under “Remove Chords.” It can replace found text with superscript (which Google Doc™ tools cannot).
The “Remove Chords” tool will remove chords, assuming you have embedded them in your lyric sheet.
“Transpose Chords” is an extremely powerful tool that allows you to change every chord in the doc from whatever key it is in to whatever key you choose. You can even change from letter keys to Nashville Numbers (and back again)!
(More on embedding chords in lyric sheets.)
The 2-Column lyric sheet is effected via the use of tabular columns and if you want to remove them quickly, the “Delete Table” tool will do that.
The next three tools toggle case quickly—much faster than navigation through multi-step Google Doc™ menus. Note, if you are using colored fonts, case changes will be accurate but the colors may default to black. The best way to avoid this problem? Use black! It's what the "industry" expects anyway.
The “Superscript” and “Subscript” tools in this app are a much easier way to do these changes than the standard Google keystroke combination (assuming you can remember them!). Reverse… puts superscript or subscript back to normal.
The “Delete word” and “Delete line” tools do exactly what they say—delete a word or line immediately before the cursor.
